Roger Gastman
- Profile:
- Roger Gastman has been blessing the free world with art since he was a 14-year-old graffiti writer in the Washington, D.C., area. Roger has since spent over a decade at the organizational forefront of the street and graffiti art movement that has now reached mainstream audiences. In 1997, at the tender age of 19, he founded While You Were Sleeping, a magazine that he self-published and distributed. WYWS blossomed from a simple graffiti zine into a full-fledged counterculture and pop culture journal, with a national distribution expanding from 3,000 to 70,000 copies. Over the years, Gastman has published more than a dozen art books, including his most recent effort, Freight Train Graffiti. The self-styled “go-to guy? has also managed a smorgasbord of artists and curated over a dozen gallery shows, and recently served as executive producer on the graffiti documentary Infamy. Whether working in publishing, film, management, or any other venue, Roger draws from his wide network of artists and clients to make the best product possible.
